NAMM invites pianists from across the country to join Roomful of Pianos, an annual event featuring spectacular multiple piano music taking place on Jan. 25-26, 2019 in Anaheim, California.
Roomful of Pianos will take place at The NAMM Show in Anaheim, California on January 25 and 26, 2019. Pianists may sign up to perform for one or both nights, depending on your ability and availability.
We will notify applicants on a rolling basis, usually within a week, and provide you with an official acceptance letter if requested. Once the spaces for an evening are filled, we will remove that evening from the form below.
This year, Roomful of Pianos will feature two French symphonic masterpieces, arranged for dozens of pianos.
First night: Paul Dukas, The Sorcerer's Apprentice (arr. Jeffrey Shumway)
Advanced pianists are invited to sign up for the first night. 15 pianists will be selected. Sheet music will be available to players by late September 2018. The piece is about 10 minutes long.
Second night: Claude Debussy, Nocturnes: Nuages and Fêtes (arr. Jed Distler)
Both intermediate and advanced pianists are invited to sign up for the second night, in this new arrangement created specifically for Roomful of Pianos. Thirty pianists will be selected. Some parts are challenging, others are playable by intermediate players, although all players must be rhythmically confident. We will distribute the sheet music in early November. The piece is about 15 minutes long.
Each program is preceded by a mandatory 2-hour rehearsal the day before, where you will get comfortable with your instrument and the space, meet the conductors, and rehearse with the full group. Please do not sign up to perform on a program unless you can commit to the rehearsal, too.
If you are performing on Friday Jan 25, you will rehearse on Thursday Jan 24 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
If you are performing on Saturday Jan 26, you will rehearse on Friday Jan 25 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
The NAMM Show is one of the world’s biggest music trade shows, attended by over 100,000 music industry figures each year. This year’s show will take over the Anaheim Convention Center (across the street from Disneyland), and three nearby hotels, a space larger than 27 football fields. It can take days to explore all of the instruments, gear, and performances on offer.
Normally, attendance is restricted to NAMM Members, but non-members who participate in Roomful of Pianos will receive a special artist badge (and one for a guest) that gives full access to all four days of the show, from Thursday through Sunday.
Pianists will be responsible for their own accommodations and travel arrangements. NAMM will provide access to its nonmember housing block and shuttle service to a nearby parking lot.
